The gargoyle surprisingly doesn't look nearly as bad as I thought it would judging by the poster. But there's way too much boring cia police procedural in my misaligned evil monster gargoyle movie and not nearly enough murder and mythology.
Michael Paré holds a gun like a granny would.

The best way to get an audience onboard with a subpar monster effect? Chuck that beasty boy in the first 2 minutes flying around and in full frame, forget trying build up a sense of mystery. And it works!

It also isn’t that bad overall, at times it even looks stop-motion. Wynorski manages to have it somewhat convincingly pick up or maul people (incredible shoddy decapitation effect that looks more like a photoshopped frame than VFX), and it only really suffers when the heroes are shooting at it.
As like the prior Curse of the Komodo; these scenes are locked into the blocking of the people with guns on one side of…

Review by Travis Lytle ★★½
By all accounts, "Gargoyle" is not a very good film. Its performances are dubious, its CG effects are reminiscent of Playstation 1 graphics, and its editing is, at times, a little less than professional. The film's resources are obviously limited, and the overall quality of the production is questionable.
Strangely, the experience is not a total loss. The story, featuring two CIA agents tracking an international kidnapping and, then, gargoyles, is earnest and compelling. Encompassing Dracula-based mythology, church secrets, and various Eastern European baddies, the plot is generates a fun, montser movie-style energy that keeps things watchable. Its painful at times, but the film is able to muster some low-rent appeal that makes the experience nearly satisfying.

not awesome, necessarily, but I'm on a Wynorski kick all of a sudden. GARGOYLE + Michael Pare + Wynorski Directing + that alley car explosion? And those halfway kinda decent CGI low budge Gargoyles? = sort of a winner?
Mixed bag, but can't deny the fun here.
5 wing swoops (out of 5) and some Plex TV Ads.
Passes the Poster Test.

Review by Warren ★★
Jim Wynorski in disguise as Jay Andrews directed this movie that HAD to be a Sci-Fi Original. It certainly felt like it.
There is a plot that doesn't matter to anyone, including the actors. It's all there to frame the gargoyles, who actually are pretty cool. They swoop down from the sky in 2004 budget CGI glory and terrorize people we don't care about. That's always worth a buck, which is what I paid for this DVD at a local thrift store.
The best scene is when this Hungarian (or Romanian? it was shot in one of those two countries) father gives three of his four kids some money to go have fun at a carnival, then drags the last kid screaming onto a Ferris Wheel. The kid keeps screaming, so the father just screams along with him, laughing.

Spooky Scary Horrorthons - Film #26
Even though the effects are dreadful and the acting is cringeworthy I managed to sit through this film thanks to the bizarre plot and the ridiculous death scenes.
The film starts of as a cheap-looking crime thriller but it doesn't take long until it turns into a monster film with religious conspiracies and Dracula worshipping cults thrown into it, it is just as sudden and stupid as it sounds and things are kept at a stupid level thankfully, nothing ruins a good schlockfest faster than attempts at a serious plot.
The titular monster is fully revealed in the opening scene and it looks like something you'd find in a video game cutscene (an old…

100 horror films in October, part ninety three
Didn’t know what to expect but i wanted to fit in a really less popular horror film and I’m glad I did… despite having pretty lame acting writing and so much more… this offered a really fun experience, and I liked the setting a lot too. I was expecting this to be really bad knowing how low budget movies like this tend to be, usually unable to have fun with some of them… but this was a great one.

“A standout quasi creature feature for all involved, with Wynorski in particular submitting some career-best work.”
